Der Angriff auf Israel durch die Terrororganisation Hamas am 7.10.2023 markiert für die jüdische und israelische Community in Deutschland einen tiefen Einschnitt. Jüdinnen_Juden stehen vor der Aufgabe, die traumatischen Folgen des tödlichen Angriffs und der damit einhergehenden antisemitischen Bedrohung zu bewältigen.

19 kwietnia, w przeddzień święta Pesach, Niemcy w sile 850 żołnierzy wkroczyli […] do getta. Dwie żydowskie organizacje bojowe – ŻZW i ŻOB – zajęły pozycje wzdłuż głównych arterii getta, ulic Nalewki, Zamenhofa i Leszno, oraz w dwóch powstańczych redutach na placu Muranowskim (ŻZW) i w szopie szczotkarzy przy zbiegu ulic Świętojerskiej i Wałowej (głównie grupy Bundu). Niemcy napotkali zbrojny opór. Dla mieszkańców getta nie było to całkowitym zaskoczeniem, dzień przed wybuchem powstania – 18 kwietnia – w getcie mówiło się o możliwej akcji. Coś się działo w budynku Judenratu na Zamenhofa (większość jego członków aresztowano jako zakładników), a bojowcy z organizacji podziemnej ostrzegali w nocy o nowych siłach ukraińskich otaczających getto. Cywile zeszli do bunkrów. Spełniały się ich najgorsze obawy. [Z ROZDZIAŁU: WALKA]

February 16, 2024. In February 2023, global religious leaders met in the United Arab Emirates to celebrate the opening of the Abrahamic Family House, a soaring multifaith complex encompassing a mosque, a church, and a synagogue. The grand opening came exactly four years after Pope Francis travelled to Abu Dhabi to sign a Document on Human Fraternity with Grand Imam Al-Tayeb of Al-Azhar, an event which marked a high point in international religious diplomacy.

Since October 7, in the wake of the Hamas terrorist attacks and hostage-taking, and the subsequent military operations in Gaza, we have witnessed a chain of violence that has placed the entire Middle East at the heart of a devastating cyclone. The events of the last few days underscore this.
Contrary to what some might have us believe, we are talking about a process that is still a “becoming,” and not something that is a fait accompli. Not everything was said with Nostra Aetate. The conciliar declaration was a paradigm shift and a great deal has been achieved in that nearly sixty years. However, Christian anti-Judaism is not a "closed case". It is still very much part of the Western collective unconscious. Thus, "deconstructing Christian anti-Judaism" remains an imperative that, alas, is still relevant today

In December 2015, during a festive gathering at Tel Aviv University, a book – the first of its kind – was launched: In our time: Documents and Articles on the Catholic Church and the Jewish People in the Wake of the Holocaust.[1] The volume includes papal and Vatican announcements, sermons, declarations, and agreements, all concerning a dramatic change in the attitudes of the Catholic Church towards the Jewish people and Israel, issued within a 50-year span: from the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council (1965) until the end of 2015.

We continue the conversation on idolatry, started in the previous issue of Wisdom. Based on the reflections on the subject, by Jewish thinkers, featured in Idolatry: A Contemporary Jewish Conversation, we convened at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion a conversation with Christian, Muslim and Hindu scholars, raising the question of what significance the category of idolatry has for these thinkers in their respective religions. Participants were asked to review the Idolatry book and to reflect on its relevance for a contemporary understanding of idolatry in their tradition. In this issue of Wisdom we offer a Muslim Perspective and a Hindu perspective.

"Kiedyś zachęcił ludzi, żeby uporządkować żydowski cmentarz. Ludzie mu przytaknęli, inni się oburzali, jeden z parafian wypalił prosto z mostu: Mój dziadek nie pracował u Żyda, mój ojciec nie pracował u Żyda, to i ja nie będę u Żyda pracować. Proboszcz odparował: A ja pracuję u Żyda i chwalę sobie. – Chłop prawie osłupiał, a ja mu przypomniałem, że Jezus był Żydem – opowiada proboszcz.
