Dear Members of the Jewish-Christian Councils in Australia Dear Mark, the Chair of ACCjJ,
The attack at Bondi Beach during Hanukkah has shattered us. What should have been an evening of joy became a scene of unthinkable violence. Each person killed was created in the image of God. Each carried infinite worth.
This moment calls us to the deepest wells of our traditions. Hanukkah teaches us to increase the light through active courage. Christianity calls us to stand with those who suffer and work for justice.
The work of pushing back darkness belongs to all of us. We commit to standing with you—not just in words, but in action. We commit to confronting antisemitism wherever it appears and to building a future where Jewish communities can live and celebrate in safety.
May the memories of those taken be a blessing. May those injured find healing. And may we all find the strength to be worthy of the light you came to kindle that evening. With deepest sympathy and unwavering solidarity.
