Israel at War: What Comes Next

A webinar with Dov Weissglas

A webinar with Dov Weissglas, Chair of the Executive Committee at University of Haifa and former Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office under Ariel Sharon

The Oct. 7 Hamas terror attack on Israel, which took the lives of at least 1,400 Israelis, has sent shockwaves around the world. With Israel now at war, this webinar will discuss what's at stake for the Middle East and how the war has impacted the University of Haifa community.

Join American Society of the University of Haifa (ASUH) for a timely discussion with Dov Weissglas, Chair of the Executive Committee at University of Haifa and former Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office under former Prime Minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon.

In his role as Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, Weissglas served as a diplomatic delegate for negotiating with U.S. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice and U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and was one of the key architects of the Israeli disengagement from Gaza. After his term finished in 2004, he continued to act as a special advisor to the Prime Minister for the rest of Sharon’s term, and he remained in this role under Prime Minister Ehud Olmert after Sharon’s stroke until his resignation in June 2006.

In this discussion, Weissglass will shed light on the current conflict from his perspective as a key advisor for the Sharon government during the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005. He'll discuss how that decision has impacted the region today and share his views on the conflict itself.
