The trauma and the sense of hopelessness we experience demand an effort to reframe our story and reorient our attitude to life in Israel and, given how events in Israel have impacted Jewry worldwide, to Jewish life itself.

To our fathers in the faith: you are not alone!
Since October 7, in the wake of the Hamas terrorist attacks and hostage-taking, and the subsequent military operations in Gaza, we have witnessed a chain of violence that has placed the entire Middle East at the heart of a devastating cyclone. The events of the last few days underscore this.
Contrary to what some might have us believe, we are talking about a process that is still a “becoming,” and not something that is a fait accompli. Not everything was said with Nostra Aetate. The conciliar declaration was a paradigm shift and a great deal has been achieved in that nearly sixty years. However, Christian anti-Judaism is not a "closed case". It is still very much part of the Western collective unconscious. Thus, "deconstructing Christian anti-Judaism" remains an imperative that, alas, is still relevant today

W warszawskiej Synagodze Nożyków odbyła się w czwartek wieczorem (2024-03-14) uroczystość wręczenia Nagrody Specjalnej Orła Jana Karskiego Alexowi Dancygowi – zakładnikowi polsko-żydowskiemu, przetrzymywanemu od 7 października ub.r. przez terrorystów Hamasu. Laureat urodził się i do 9. roku życia wychowywał się w Warszawie, jest historykiem, strażnikiem pamięci o Holokauście, ekspertem Instytutu Jad Waszem w Jerozolimie, promuje jak najlepsze związki polsko-żydowskie oraz opowiada się za pokojowym ułożeniem się Żydów i Palestyńczyków na tej samej ziemi. W imieniu uhonorowanego nagrodę odebrał jego syn Yuval.

Alex Dancyg: człowiek pokoju, dialogu i przyjaźni
Dziś Orzeł Jana Karskiego trafia do Alexa Dancyga. Trudno nie zauważyć duchowej bliskości pomiędzy patronem nagrody a jej laureatem. Obydwaj są ludźmi zdolnymi do poszerzania swej tożsamości. Jan Karski wobec Zagłady Żydów, poprzez którą – jak głosił – ludzkość popełniła po raz drugi grzech pierworodny, sam stał się Żydem z wyboru. Podobnie Alex Dancyg był świadomym Żydem, służącym swemu narodowi i państwu Izrael, który nigdy nie przestał być Polakiem.

We are experiencing a moment of great travail. Wars and divisions are increasing all over the world. We are truly, as I said some time ago, in the midst of a sort of "piecemeal world war", with serious consequences on the lives of many populations.
Unfortunately, even the Holy Land has not been spared this pain, and since October 7 it too has been cast into a spiral of unprecedented violence. My heart is torn at the sight of what is happening in the Holy Land, by the power of so much division and so much hatred.
